Grapefruit

The grapefruit is a sub-tropical citrus tree grown for its fruit which was originally named the "forbidden fruit" of Barbados. Ruby Red grapefruits (of the Redblush variety) were actually patented in 1929 in the US!

Grapefruits are a great source of Vitamin C which helps to support the immune system. Vitamin C-rich foods like grapefruit may help reduce colds or their severity. Vitamin C also is thought to reduce the severity of inflammatory conditions, such as asthma, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis.

What do I do with it?

Predominantly eaten at breakfast cut in half and then sugar can be sprinkled on. Also added to salads or used to make a zingy Florida Salad:

Florida Salad
· Lettuce
· 1 grapefruit, peeled and diced
· 1 orange, peeled and diced
· 1 handful of walnuts, chopped
· 1 handful of raisins
· 3 tbsp of olive oil
· Salt and pepper
Mix all in a bowl and squeeze the orange and grapefruit a bit so the juices mix with the oil.

Or it can be used to make this dangerous cocktail!
