Romanesco

In my opinion it is the most beautiful vegetable in the world!

Although not a common vegetable, it's actually an ancient variety that was grown exclusively around Rome (hence its name). It is sometimes called Romanesco broccoli or Romanesco cauliflower in North America, Romanesco cabbage in France and Broccolo Romanesco in Italy... all the name-calling is indicative of the confusion and difficulty surrounding the classification of this delicious vegetable.

It looks like a 3-D puzzle, with the pointy bits being made up of pointy bits, which are made up of pointy bits. (fractals).

What do I do with them?
It has a really unique flavour of its own and can be eaten raw (with dips?) or cooked like cauliflower.

It does go well with a cheese sauce but it is probably worth trying a bit of it on its own. Probably the quickest and easiest way is to microwave it. By microwaving it, it retains more of its nutrients - simply place in a microwavable bowl whole (remove the leaves), put a couple of table spoons of water over it, cover with cling film and then microwave for 8 to 10 minutes.
